The State Duma can confirm a candidate for human rights commissioner of Russia
On Friday, the State Duma can confirm a candidate for human rights commissioner of Russia, State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov told journalists. Mr. Gryzlov explained that presently there are three candidates for human rights commissioner. The first candidate is the unaffiliated Vladimir Lukin, who was nominated by President Vladimir Putin. The second candidate for human rights commissioner, Aleksandr Lagutin, is a specialist with a technical education that has experience in human rights. Deputies of the 3rd convocation of the State Duma nominated Georgi Rudov, an academic and the ambassador of Russia to Kygyzstan, for human rights commissioner. According to the federal law "On the Human Rights Commissioner of the Russian Federation," the candidate for ombudsman must be confirmed by a constitutional majority of votes in the State Duma, 300 votes. Meanwhile, the leader of LDPR party, Vladimir Zhirinovsky said that LDPR did not intended to support Vladimir Lukin. The LDPR "faction will not support the Lukin's candidacy, because the deputies intend to nominate me to this post," Mr. Zhirinovsky said
