The fourth round of the Russian-Japanese Forum will meet next fall
The fourth round of the Russian-Japanese Forum will meet next fall, Dmitry Mezentsev, vice chairman of the Federation Council, told after he held a working visit with Kenzi Sinoda, deputy director for European affairs of the Japanese Foreign Ministry. Mezentsev said the place of the meeting has not been determined but that the city of Kanadzawi is under consideration. 'Our consultations today took up how to arrange the fourth round, the place, time and topics,' he said, noting that the forum, under the terms of an agreement signed in 2000 by the heads of the two countries, is designed to implement a 'plan for cooperation in the fields of business, science, education and charities." Sinoda, in turn, said the basic aim of the forum is 'to underline the importance of developing Japanese-Russian relations, including the signing of a peace treaty.' The previous three rounds met in Russia: in 2001, Moscow; 2002, Saint Petersburg; and 2003, Irkutsk.
