An international conference devoted to the 60-th anniversary of liberating Austria from Nazism opened today in Shallaburg castle, Loosdorf
The forum involves such Russian delegates as Academician Alexander Chubaryan, Professor Valery Vartanov, Dr. Natalia Lebedeva, Dr. Mikhail Prozumenshchikov and many others. The conference was opened in that medieval castle by Austria's Federal Chancellor Wolfgang Schussel and Russian Ambassador in Austria Stanislav Osadchy. The "Austria is Free!" is also taking place there. Conference delegates are to discuss various aspects of liberating Vienna and east Austria (Loosdorf included) by the Red Army, Soviet occupation of Austria in 1945-1955 and the signing of the May 15, 1955 State Treaty that restored Austria's freedom and sovereignty. Counselor-minister Dmitry Lyubinsky of the Russian Embassy, who is also taking part in the forum's work, opened a RIA Novosti photo exhibition "People, Who Triumphed Over War" just before the conference began. This photo exhibition has already been displayed in Vienna's Kaiserhaus palace, winning acclaim. The Loosdorf conference is to last until April 29.
