The Russian-Egyptian summit meeting began in Cairo, with the two countries' ministers participating
Early in the talks, Vladimir Putin underlined that the agreements made during Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's visit to Russia last year were being implemented. The Russian president opined that the economic cooperation between the two countries had to be boosted to match the political dialogue between them. Putin also noted Egypt's key role in the region. According to presidential aide Sergei Prikhodko, Putin and Mubarak have discussed the whole range of the economic problems and the situation in the Middle East. A source in the Russian delegation said that at yesterday's meeting of the two presidents, a high level of bilateral political relations was emphasized. The source also stressed that the relations could lay the groundwork of a more accelerated evolution of the economic relations between Russia and Egypt. In addition, an opinion has been voiced that it was time to alter the structure and scale of the trade and economic relations between the two countries
