Vladimir Putin will discuss the Mideastern situation with the Israeli leadership
President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation will discuss the Mideastern situation with the Israeli leadership, presidential aide Sergei Prikhodko noted. According to Prikhodko, Russia supports a plan for withdrawing Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip and part of the West Bank. "We hope that this move will help reactivate the road-map plan and enhance mutual trust. The peace process must go on," Prikhodko said. "Both sides should meet each other halfway for the sake of stopping armed confrontation and resuming talks," Moscow believes. In Prikhodko's words, both countries voice either coinciding or similar positions on key regional and international issues, such as the fight against international terrorism, preventing the proliferation of mass-destruction weapons and settling regional conflicts. "This will be reflected in a joint Russian-Israeli statement, due to be signed during the visit," Prikhodko added.
