In the French town of Haguenau a monument to Russian and Soviet soldiers has been unveiled
In the French town of Haguenau, 50 kilometers away from Strasbourg, a monument to Russian and Soviet soldiers killed during the first and second world wars has been unveiled. The monument stands on the local military cemetery. It honors 122 Russian soldiers and officers killed in the years of WWI and 529 Soviet army soldiers killed in the struggle against Nazism in Alsace and Lorraine. The monument is two upturned bayonets of white and red granite. They rest on the pedestal with the St.George's Cross and the Hero Star. The authors are Russian architects Igor and Anton Voskresenski. The unveiling is timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the victory over Nazism.
