George Bush said that he trusted Russian President Vladimir Putin's words about his commitment to democracy
President George Bush Jr. of the United States said that he trusted Russian President Vladimir Putin's words about his commitment to democracy. President Bush made this statement April 28 at a White House press conference. Bush said that he and Putin had a long talk about democracy and the importance of democracy during their summit in Slovakia. Bush reminded those present that Putin said at a press conference after the summit that he resolutely supported democracy. I trust his word, the President of the United States noted. Talking about Russian assistance to Iran's nuclear power engineering program, Bush noted that the US Administration appreciated Russia's decision to return spent nuclear fuel from Iran. Russia has agreed to supply highly enriched uranium to a civilian nuclear power plant and to take that uranium back after it has been used to generate power and heat, Bush said. This is what they decided to do; and I appreciate this gesture, Bush stressed. Russia understands what America understands, and what Great Britain, France and Germany understand. We cannot trust the Iranians, as far as uranium-enrichment operations are concerned. They must not be allowed to enrich uranium, the US leader added. At the same time, the US Administration did not like Russia's decision to sell anti-aircraft missiles to Syria. Bush noted that the United States was working closely with Russia on the issue of delivering truck-based weapons to Syria. We stated clearly that we did not like this Russian decision, Bush said
