CSKA Moscow made a goalless draw in the away first semifinal match of the UEFA Cup with Italian Parma
Positional play without goal scoring episodes went on during the first 45 minutes of the match. There was, in effect, no work for CSKA goal keeper Igor Akinfeyev and his Italian counterpart Luca Bucci. From the very beginning of the match the head coach of the Moscow club fielded one forward - Croatian Ivica Olic. Brazilian forward of CSKA Vagner Love remained in the reserve. Parma head coach Pietro Carmegniani who is trying hard to keep his club in series A of the Italian championship let the team's leaders have a rest, giving young footballers a chance to prove their worth in a high-level match against the army team from Moscow. The character of the game, in effect, did not change in the second half-time. The main struggle went on in the middle of the field or on the approaches to the goals. And even after Vagner Love took the field, having replaced Serbian midfield Milos Krasic in the 58th minute, CSKA's performance in attack improved only a little. But the host team managed to launch several dangerous attacks during one of which CSKA goalie Akinfeyev parried Fabio Vignaroli's powerful shot from 20 metres. At the end of the match Gazzayev replaced Olic by midfield Yuris Laizans. The second semifinal match will be held in Moscow on May 5.
