The premiere of the Russian Hamlet ballet is to take place in the capital of Argentina
The premiere of the Russian Hamlet ballet staged by well-known Russian ballet-master Boris Eifman is to take place on the stage of the largest Luna Park hall in the capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires, on Tuesday. The ballet's libretto is based on the fate of Catherine the Great and her son Paul I killed by noblemen-plotters on March 1, 1801 not without participation of his own son Alexander I. Argentine ballet star Julio Boca performed the role of emperor Paul I. As head of the St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre Boris Eifman said, "the idea to show the performance in Buenos Aires came into being after Julio Boca danced with our theatre in New York and then in Mariinsky Theatre of St. Petersburg in February 2005." "We wanted to show Russian Hamlet with the participation of Julio Boca in Argentina where he is well known and loved," Mr. Eifman noted. RIA Novosti's interlocutor said that the St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre is coming to Argentina for the first time. "We are very glad to have a chance to perform before the exacting Argentine spectators," he went on to say. Boris Eifman holds the view that Argentina has great ballet traditions. "My familiarization with the Argentine world of ballet began when I started staging the ballet about very well-known Russian ballerina Olga Spesivtseva," he said. After the death of the great Anna Pavlova Ms. Spesivtseva worked with Mikhail Fokin in the Argentine Colon theatre. A nervous disturbance hit her for the first time in Buenos Aires, followed by a disease that led her to a long stay at a hospital for mental diseases. "Back at that time she wrote in her memoirs about the inordinary Argentine public - the most enthusiastic in the world. I later heard something of this kind from Maya Plisetskaya," Mr. Eifman said. A company of the theatre, consisting of 52 people, came to Argentina. It includes such stars of the theatre as Yelena Kuzmina who will perform the role of Catherine the Great, Maria Abashova and Alexei Turko. The guest performances will end on May 11, and a total of eight performances will be shown.
