Russia will be ready to withdraw its bases from Georgia
Russia will be ready to withdraw its bases from Georgia within four years after the signing of a relevant Russian-Georgian agreement, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces General of the Army Yury Baluyevsky said in Brussels on Wednesday. "Today the Defense Ministry has no money to finance the withdrawal of the bases," he noted. According to the general, the withdrawal of the Russian bases from Georgia and the subsequent accommodation of servicemen will cost over $300 million. Russia has already withdrawn about 60 tanks, over 400 armored vehicles and 30 artillery systems from Georgian territory, Baluyevsky reported. Therefore, Russia fulfils the obligations assumed at the OSCE summit in Istanbul in 1999 in fixed terms, he stressed. It concerns both the reductions of arms, the withdrawal and utilization of military hardware from the Russian bases in Vaziani (near Tbilisi) and Gudauta (Abkhazia) and the discontinuing of these bases, Yury Baluyevsky said.
