The system of Russian art education should be preserved
The system of Russian art education should be preserved, head of the federal agency for culture and cinematography Mikhail Shvydkoi said at a Monday session of the Russian Culture and Mass Communications Ministry's board. Education and Science Minister Andrei Fursenko also attended the session. According to Culture and Mass Communications Minister Alexander Sokolov, the two ministries have reached mutual understanding which is needed to solve art education problems. Among them are accessibility of primary art education (music and art schools and studios) and continuity of art education. Professional musicians usually receive primary five-year training at music schools and then enter colleges and conservatories. Artists and dancers have a similar education system. Russian art education system ranks among the world's best, Shvydkoi emphasized. The board also discussed the possible introduction of art education fees. This problems demands a cardinal solution, Shvydkoi noted adding that the state should give relevant legislative guarantees. Today 44 federal higher education establishments lie within the jurisdiction of the Culture and Mass Communications Ministry.
