The international conference UNESCO is opening in St. Petersburg on Tuesday
The international conference UNESCO between Two Stages of the World Summit on Information Society is opening in St. Petersburg on Tuesday. The Russian Information and Communications Ministry, UNESCO, Russian commission for UNESCO Affairs, Russian committee for UNESCO's program Information for All, Russian Ministry of Culture and Mass Communication, and Russian Foreign Ministry are cosponsors of the event. The conference is to become a major part of UNESCO's preparations for the Tunisia round of the World Summit on Information Society slated for November 2005. According to the steering committee, more than 50 countries are to participate in the conference. "The conference is aimed at working out further steps and fundamental decisions for UNESCO in shaping a global information society. High on the agenda is going to be working out recommendations for UNESCO to decide on what its stance is on further implementation of the guidelines of the World Summit on Information Society," a spokesperson for the steering committee noted
