The new state borderline between Estonia and Russia will differ only a little from today's "control line"
It is now the official name for the frontier separating the adjacent countries, the Estonian Foreign Ministry's official website says. The sides swap 128.6 hectares of dry land and 11.4 square kilometers of the lake surface according to each other's desire, the ministry says. Some of the lands to pass to Russia are held in private ownership and Estonia will have to agree with the landowners on their purchase. If no agreement is reached, a process of compulsory purchase of land will begin. The total length of the Estonian-Russian border is 460.6 kilometers, 138 kilometers being overland. Foreign Ministers Sergei Lavrov of Russia and Urmas Paet of Estonia will sign the treaty on the land and sea border between their countries in Moscow on May 18. Signing of the border treaty with Estonia may promote bilateral relations, spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Yakovenko told RIA Novosti. "The territorial integrity of the Russian Federation is secured in full measure," Yakovenko said
