A verdict to six defendants in the murder of deputy of the State Duma of the second convocation Galina Starovoitova will be handed down in the Petersburg City Court on June 30
The court set the date when the verdict will be pronounced after the defendants have made their last statements on Monday. Four of six defendants pleaded not guilty, only two of them – Yuri Ionov and Alexei Voronin pleaded guilty. All last pleas lasted for about two hours. After the last statements the jury withdrew to hand down the verdict according to the law. During the court hearings the state prosecutor noted that the guilt of all defendants is proved and demanded to sentence Yuri Kolchin and Vitaly Akishin to life in prison, Yuri Ionov and Igor Krasnov to 15 years in a strict regime colony, Igor Lelyavin to 12 years in a strict regime colony and Alexei Voronin to 4.5 years in prison. The trial of Galina Starovoitova’s murder case already lasts for about 18 months since December 2003. The deputy was killed in autumn 1998, investigators of the Federal Security Service detained six suspects in the assassination only four years later. Another several people are on the wanted list, other two are pending trial. The investigating team is looking for an ordering party of the murder
