About 20 tonnes of oil have been spilt from the Khadyzhensk-Krasnodar pipeline
About 20 tonnes of oil have been spilt from the Khadyzhensk-Krasnodar pipeline in Russia’s Krasnodar territory near the Goryachi Klyuch town overnight as a result of an emergency, the emergency situations and state environmental control department of the regional administration told Itar-Tass on Tuesday. The emergency occurred at the 51st kilometre of the oil pipeline. The nearest populated locality Prirechensky settlement is 2.5 kilometres away. The oil spill was caused by a small crack in the worn-out pipe that has been used for 50 years without repair. Large-scale pollution has been evaded only thanks to the fact that planned repairs were conducted on a pipeline section not far from the spill site. It took several hours to dispatch an emergency brigade to the spill site. The team consisted of 24 specialists and 15 machinery units. The Krasnodar department of main pipelines has started the contaminated soil remediation.
