The delegations of the Russian and Georgian foreign ministries have made their positions on the deadline for the withdrawal of two Russian military bases from Georgia after two-day talks closer. "I cannot say that we have agreed on the deadline, and I would not like to tell you the numbers we disagree on. But I can assure you that these are not great differences we cannot overcome," Igor Savolsky, special envoy of the Russian Foreign Ministry and head of the Russian delegation, told journalists. According to the official, the parties are still to meet on the political level to completely resolve the problem. "I share the view of the Russian colleague and I confirm that there are no serious differences on the deadline," Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Merab Antadze said. US Ambassador to Tbilisi Richard Miles told journalists after his meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister Salome Zurabishvili that the US could not recommend anything particular on the issue of the withdrawal of Russian military bases. "I had a conversation with the Georgian foreign minister on the withdrawal of Russian military bases from Georgia," he said. "The US cannot currently recommend anything special on this issue," the American diplomat stressed. "The bases were discussed during President Bush's visit to Georgia as well... The US is interested in the settlement of the problem and sure that results can be attained by means of talks," the ambassador said.
