Forest fires are raging in Siberia and the Far East, taiga and tundra are ablaze
Meanwhile, the largest taiga fire on the area of more than 500 hectares has been put out in the Pre-Baikal region on the border with the Krasnoyarsk territory. Irkutsk region prosecutor Anatoly Merzlyakov warned the leadership of the territorial forestry agency over insufficient measures to prevent and extinguish forest fires. More than 400 forest fires broke out in the Irkutsk region since early May, and it was found out that people are to blame for all fires. Eleven fires on the area of 141 hectares have been put out in the Far East over the past day, but another 24 fires were registered. According to the Far Eastern regional emergencies center, forests and plains on the area of 220 hectares are ablaze in the Khabarovsk territory, Kamchatka, Amur and Magadan regions. The total area of forest fires made about 400 hectares, more than 90 hectares of forests have burnt down in the territory since the beginning of the fire-prone season this year.
