Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he is satisfied with the results of his talks in Lithuania.
Lavrov said on Thursday, “I believe that they will help solve concrete problems in order to improve living standards of citizens and ease contacts.” “The agreements, which have been signed today, will allow Russia and Lithuania to intensify business cooperation. This is a good foundation to resolve the existing problems,” the Russian minister said. “Today we’ve signed several documents – a protocol on economic cooperation, which includes provisions on the details about the working group of the commission, and an agreement on its session scheduled for the autumn of the year 2005,” he said. “We adopted a joint statement on bilateral relations. Special attention is riveted to interaction on Kaliningrad transit.” “We agreed on phytosanitary control on the Russian-Lithuanian border. We also agreed on veterinary control. The sides confirmed their resoluteness to ensure effective functioning of transit of passengers. This should help solve other problems, in particular financing and insurance guarantees of cargoes,” the Russian minister added. In his words, the sides also discussed negative consequences of Lithuania’s upcoming accession to the Schengen Agreement
