Baltic Pipeline System
Transneft CEO Semyon Vainshtok reported to President Vladimir Putin on Friday that the construction of the stage of the Baltic Pipeline System (BPS) with the throughput capacity of 42 million metric tons of crude a year has been completed. "Within a period of just three years, Russia built a new outbound seaport of Primorsk (on the shore of Gulf of Finland -- Itar-Tass). Its throughput capacity is the same as that of Novorossiisk on the Black Sea," Vainshtok has been reported as saying. Putin congratulated him on the completion of the construction, saying that despite its northern location Primorsk was an all-weather port, “Novorossiisk is usually out of operation for 80 to 90 days a year because of the rough seas, while Primorsk operates normally 364 days a year,” Vainshtok said in a comment on the capacities of the new facility.
