The third session of the Russia-China working group on media cooperation will be held in Beijing today
The agenda includes discussion of the implementation of bilateral agreements on media cooperation and an action plan for the working group for 2004-2005. The participants will also analyze the outlook and areas of developing interaction between the sides' media. In particular, Russia and China plan to promote cooperation in television, especially in view of preparations for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. They are ready to step up cooperation in the exchange of radio programs and in the issue of joint radio shows. A separate issue on the group's action plan, which is to be approved at the Thursday session, is cooperation between their countries' news agencies. In particular, RIA Novosti and China's largest publishing holding Renmin Ribao and Xinhua news agency plan to hold in 2006 a competition among Chinese journalists for the best publication about Russia. A delegation of Chinese photographers is to visit Russia, after which they are expected to publish a photo album Russia as Seen by Chinese Photo Correspondents. RIA Novosti and its Chinese partners also plan to organize a car race of Russian and Chinese journalists from Moscow to Beijing, timed for the opening of the Year of Russia in China. The action plan will stipulate that RIA Novosti and Renmin Ribao will sign an agreement on Internet cooperation of their web sites. The session participants will also discuss the organization of the fourth session of the working group in Moscow in 2006
