Russia and China are not satisfied with the current trade turnover and structure
Speaking in the airport of Beijing on Thursday, Boris Gryzlov, speaker of the Russian parliament's lower chamber, said, "I do not think that our countries are satisfied with the volume we have reached today, $21 billion or with the structure of the trade." Supplies of commodities and consumer goods are not an area of cooperation for two great states that have good neighborly relations, he added. On Thursday the parliament's delegation led by the speaker began its official visit to China. The parliamentarians will meet the country's President Hu Jintao, State Council Premier Wen Jiabao and chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Wu Bangguo to discuss issues of strategic partnership between the two countries, Mr. Gryzlov said. They will also visit several Chinese enterprises working in the sphere of new technologies. This experience is especially interesting for Russia, as it is preparing to adopt a law on special economic zones, he explained. In Beijing the parties are expected to sign a Charter of the Russian-Chinese parliamentary commission for cooperation. According to the document, the two parliaments will discuss all issues of interaction between Russia and China, coordinate their activities in international parliamentary organizations and exchange law-making experience, the speaker said. On June 17, the Russian delegation will leave for Chongqing, the largest city in the central part of China, which was the country's capital for a few years during the Second World War. There Mr. Gryzlov will attend the opening of a photo exhibition devoted to the 60th anniversary of the end of WWII. The event is organized by the Russian Embassy in China, the Chongqing administration and RIA Novosti. He will also lay a wreath to the monument to Soviet military volunteers in the city. The Russian delegation will stay in China till June 18.
