The state flag of the Russian Federation was hoisted in a ceremony at the World Exposition EXPO 2005
The state flag of the Russian Federation was hoisted in a ceremony at the World Exposition EXPO 2005 in the suburb of the Japanese Nagoya town on Friday as the day of Russia is held at the exhibition. Russia has sent to EXPO 2005 a sizeable delegation of 70 politicians, businesspeople and culture workers headed by Minister of Education and Science Andrei Fursenko. At the ceremony of the beginning of the Day of Russia the minister conveyed to the organisers and guests of the exhibition a greeting from Russian President Vladimir Putin and wished on behalf of the Russian head of state success to EXPO 2005. According to Fursenko, the Russian exposition is devoted to the Man and Nature theme and is designed “not only to demonstrate the riches of the country, but also to show its achievements in the advanced technology sphere.” Japanese Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Shuzen Tanigawa who spoke at the ceremony on behalf of the Japanese government pointed to an active growth of economic ties between the two countries. He cited as an example the recent decision of Toyota Motor Corporation to build its assembly plant in St. Petersburg suburb. The Russian pavilion at the exposition is under the patronage of the Japanese town of Toyota where the Toyota Corporation base facilities are located. For the Day of Russia the patrons from Toyota brought over 50 children who took part in the cultural programme with participation of the celebrated Pyatnitsky Chorus, the Brass Band of Moscow Cadets and Bolshoi Theatre ballet stars – Nikolai Tsiskaridze, Nadezhda Gracheva and Vladimir Neporozhny. The EXPO 2005 visitors are also expected to see the Snow Show by Russia’s famous mime Vyacheslav Polunin. The Russian exposition at EXPO 2005 is about a possibility of harmony between technical progress and nature. The central exhibit of the Russian pavilion is a house that can resist fires and floods and can survive an earthquake with the magnitude of nine points. The house is built of environmentally friendly materials and gets energy by way of processing waste. The pride of the space section of the Russian exposition is a model of the Klipper space shuttle that is capable of not only flying to orbit, but also make voyages to the Moon. Among other exhibits are a model of a tidal power plant and the international thermonuclear reactor capable of giving the world virtually inexhaustible energy source. Head of the Russian Central Election Commission Alexander Veshnyakov personally presented the state automated system Elections at the pavilion on Friday. The exposition visitors were offered to vote for the candidacy of Moscow as host of the EXPO in 2015 using the Elections electronic system. Fursenko expressed confidence to Itar-Tass that Moscow has chances to host the exposition
