An exhibit, Felinni!, opens at Moscow's Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts today. It is part of the Felinni Week, a series of events sponsored by the Moscow International Film Festival. Although the world knows the late Italian Federico Felinni best as a film director, he was also a talented artist, who made settings and costumes for his films, as well as many drawings and caricatures. An album with Felinni's drawings came out in 2000, and some of them were exhibited to great acclaim at New York's Guggenheim Museum in 2003 and 2004. Three times as many drawings will be on display in Moscow, and visitors will have a rare chance to see Felinni's drawings, photographs, and the costumes made to his designs. The exhibit comprises more than 160 drawings, 40 photographs, and 10 original costumes designed by the director himself from the film Rome. The Felinni exhibit, which will open at a popular gallery on Solyanka Street on June 21, will also feature some of Felinni's erotic sketches, something his relatives do not generally display, sketches to films Felinni made, and shots by Italy's best photographers. Italy's state archives and private collections provided the exhibits for the Moscow expositions. Enrico Gasbarra, the president of the Province of Rome and the province's culture minister, will attend the exhibit's opening ceremony. In addition, the great master's niece, Francesca Fabbri Felinni, and Vincenzo Molica, the late director's close friend, a film expert who oversees the Moscow project, will come to the Russian capital for the event.
