The Brussels international conference on Iraq scheduled for June 22 will promote security in the country
The Brussels international conference on Iraq scheduled for June 22 will promote security in the country, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a government session Monday. Russia is participating in drafting the nearly finished final reform proposal for the forum. "If the recommendations [in the proposal] are approved and fulfilled, it will promote international efforts on the Iraqi settlement and raise the security level," Lavrov said. The final document is aimed at "involving ethnic, religious and other forces in the political settlement," he said. The document emphasizes the importance of increasing the UN's role in drafting an Iraqi constitution, he said. Iraq is planning a constitutional referendum for this fall. Foreign ministers from some 70 countries are scheduled to attend the conference in Brussels, Lavrov said
