President Vladimir Putin said Monday that cooperation between Russia and Norway was an example of good-neighborly relations
"Relations between Russia and Norway have developed in the best possible way lately," the president said during his meeting in the Kremlin with Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik. Putin said Russia and Norway were wrapping up talks on conditions for Russia's accession to the WTO, and that bilateral commodity turnover was growing, attributing the growth to "rather intense political contacts." Putin said this year would mark 100 years since the two countries had established diplomatic relations, and that "Russia was the first country to recognize Norway's independence." Bondevik said he was happy to be visiting Moscow for the second time in the past two months. He was last here for VE Day celebrations.
