A high-ranking official in the presidential administration said Chechnya should remain within Russia
“Our position is that the North Caucasus should remain part of the Federation. There will be no negotiations with people who kill our children,” presidential deputy chief of staff Vladislav Surkov told the German weekly Der Spiegel on Monday. He believes “it is necessary to improve the social situation in the region more effectively than before, create new jobs, improve education, and implement programmes for young people.” In his words, “70 percent of the able-bodied population in Chechnya has no work”.
