Vladimir Putin instructed high school graduates Tuesday to act competently and take responsibility for their future and that of the country
"Your life is dramatically changing. Now you will have more and more responsibilities," he said at a Kremlin ceremony. Putin told the graduates their first major step would be to choose a path to their future. "Then you will be responsible for your relatives, your family and our country. I want to wish you the ability to rise to the challenge in whatever you do and wherever you do it so that you will be people of competence," he said. Putin thanked Russian teachers for instructing children in honesty and love for their country. "I want to thank them, not only for teaching you knowledge included in the curriculum, but also for educating our young citizens in the patriotic spirit, teaching them decency, honesty and love for their country," Putin said. Putin added that in the rapidly changing world, teachers themselves encounter challenges in life, and only love for school and their work helps them remain so steadfast. Programs were held all over Russia Monday for about 1,390,000 children graduating from high school. Teachers from nearly 67,000 schools were on hand for the celebrations
