Ruslan Alkhanov :"Every complaint about human rights abuse by police will be closely reviewed"
Every complaint about human rights abuse by police will be closely reviewed, Chechen Interior Minister Ruslan Alkhanov said at a meeting with representatives of the republic’s human rights organizations on Wednesday. The parties specifically discussed the problem of kidnappings, the Interior Ministry spokesman, Ruslan Atsayev said. Human rights advocates told the minister about the backlog of claims against some Chechen police units, in particular that of passport and migration services. “None of the cases will be neglected, and each will be thoroughly checked,” Alkhanov said. The minister asked human rights activists to support Chechen police. “You are the ones who can explain the people that Chechnya’s Interior Ministry enforce the law and safeguard their rights,” Alkhanov said. The meeting brought together such organizations as Hope for Children, Presumption of Innocence, Mothers’ Call, The World and Human Rights, and the Chechen government’s human rights committee. The ministry will do its utmost to establish regular contacts and cooperation with human rights advocates, Alkhanov said
