The action “Russian children travel to Russia was flagged off in Kaliningrad
The action “Russian children travel to Russia”, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the V-Day, was flagged off in Kaliningrad. It started at a place, sacred for all Kaliningraders – the memorial to 1,200 heroes, fallen in the battle for Koenigsberg in April 1945. More than 140 boys and girls, participants in the action, rendered the Russian Anthem. They sang to the accompaniment of the military orchestra of the Baltic Fleet. World War II veteran Veniamin Krivosheyev handed over to them soldiers’ former tobacco-pouches with soil, taken from the memorial, which will be put at common graves of Soviet soldiers in Poland, Belarus and hero cities of Brest, Minsk, Smolensk, Moscow as well as the Moscow Region, via which the route of the ten-day travel will run. Action participants honoured with a minute of silence the memory of Soviet soldiers, fallen for freedom and independence of the Homeland. Scarlet roses were put at the foot of the memorial. Such trips of Kaliningrad Region schoolchildren to “great” Russia, many of whom have not been there at all due to the enclave position of the Russian westernmost region, have been conducted by the regional administration for the fourth time running. Incidentally, the route of the action will run across Poland and Belarus for the first time. “The present action, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory, assumes an international nature, which puts special responsibility on its participants and organizers,” stressed the Regional Governor Vladimir Yegorov. Action head Olga Dubovaya told Tass that it turned out “many children know little about the Great Patriotic War, 1941-1945”. Therefore, young travelers will be suggested not only to share their impressions of visits to hero cities and common graves of Soviet soldiers in their compositions which they will write, but will also write of their grannies and grand-dads who participated in the war in one way or another. The fourth book “Russian children travel to Russia” will be published by the results of the action
