A total of 167 forest fires have been registered, sweeping across a 24,000 hectare area
A total of 167 forest fires have been registered, sweeping across a 24,000 hectare area, a spokesman at the press service of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry told Itar-Tass on Monday. The number of the fires has decreased by 57 as compared to Sunday. The fires are going on in forest areas of the Russian Far East, Siberia, the Volga-Urals and northeastern regions of Russia. There is no threat to residential areas and economic facilities, the spokesman said. However, residents of Tuva’s village of Soi and patients of a tuberculosis rehabilitation centre had to be evaluated as a fire spread over 300 hectares in the forest not far from the village. Fighting this fire engages more than 2,000 people, helicopters and planes
