The Luzniki sports center will be hosting the World Boxing Cup from July 12 to 17 here
"Competition on a level this high has not been held in Moscow since 1989," Eduard Khusainov, the president of the Russian Boxing Federation, said. Khusainov said that the strongest teams from Cuba, the United States, Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Romania and Kazakhstan will arrive in the Russian capital, as will an Asian team (India, Pakistan and Iran) and an African team. According to Khusainov, the fights between the Russian and Cuban teams will be the most intriguing part of the event. "We want to meet with Cubans in the final," he said. "However, it's possible that we will be drawn against them earlier, although a final between the Cubans and Russians would be more interesting." Russians and their main rivals, the Cubans, have been training for five days in Chekhov in the Moscow region. The Russian national team was named after sparring matches on July 4 and includes Sergei Kazakov (under 48kg), Georgy Balakshin (under 51kg), Maxim Khalikov (under 54), Alexei Tishchenko (under 57kg), Murat Khrachev (under 60kg), Oleg Komissarov (under 65kg), Andrei Balanov (under 69 kg), Matvei Korobov (under 75kg), captain Yevgeny Makarenko (under 81kg), Roman Romanchuk (under 91kg) and Islam Timurziyev (more than 91kg). There will be $120,000 in prize money at stake during the World Cup
