Alexander Vershbow he hopes that the criminal case opened against Mikhail Kasyanov is not politically motivated
U.S. Ambassador to Russia Alexander Vershbow told journalists Tuesday that he hopes that the criminal case opened against former Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov is not politically motivated. "It is difficult to make any conclusions today, but I hope the case is not linked with politics, particularly, the 2008 presidential campaign," Vershbow said. Yesterday the Russian Prosecutor General's Office opened a criminal case against the VPK-Invest state-run company, which had sold an elite piece of property in Moscow to Kasyanov. The Prosecutor General's Office also accused the former prime minister of fraud and inflicting material damage on the state. Both cases were opened after a parliament member's inquiry was opened. Kasyanov has denied any wrongdoing.
