The detention of Russian observers during recent elections in Moldova is unacceptable
The detention of Russian observers during recent elections in Moldova is unacceptable, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after talks with Chairman of the Organization for Security Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Dimitrij Rupel. "These actions are unacceptable," Lavrov said. "The Moldovan leadership seems to be doing everything possible, and even impossible, to freeze the Transdnestr settlement and further mar Russian-Moldovan relations. Four Russian citizens were charged with attempting to take photos of the country's parliament in the center of Chisinau July 9, an illegal act according to Moldovan law. Russian nationals Alexei Kochetkov and Vladimir Lebyodkin were detained and immediately sentenced to seven and 13 days in prison, respectively, for the offense last Saturday. Moldovan authorities also deported Russian lawyer Sergei Mirzoyev Friday, who they said "interfered in the internal political process".
