St. Petersburg university student Anna Kuzina was the winner of the international student competition for best knowledge of the Chinese language
The World Conference on the Chinese Language opened in Beijing Wednesday. Kuzina addressed the audience in perfect Chinese. During her speech, she was applauded many times. The world student contest Bridge to China was held in Beijing July 13-15. Kuzina told RIA Novosti it was hard to win. "All my rivals had good knowledge of Chinese, and I did not expect I would win," she said. Anna said she became interested in studying the Chinese language back in school. After her studies, she applied to be a student at the Oriental Languages Department of St. Petersburg University and was accepted. The first stage of the contest took place in Russia. Kuzina's reward for winning the finals is three years of education for a master's degree at Beijing University. Anna will be presented with a winning crown on July 22. China has been actively promoting Chinese language and cultural studies abroad. Official Chinese statistics say over 30 million people are studying Chinese worldwide
