There are 11 million disabled people in Russia and their number is rising
There are 11 million disabled people in Russia and their number is rising, Vice-Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov said Thursday at a government session on social support for the disabled. According to Zhukov, the number of disabled persons is growing due to road accidents, industrial injuries and environmental problems. Protection of the disabled is a priority for the government, Zhukov said. "Disabled people are the most vulnerable group who need the state's special protection and care. In addition to money compensations, the state should provide disabled people with everything possible so that they can live and work like other citizens. He said the state was ready to provide disabled persons with required equipment. This measure should be included in the federal targeted program for the social support of disabled persons, currently being discussed by the cabinet.
