Less than $2 billion was exported from Russia in the first half of 2005
Less than $2 billion was exported from Russia in the first half of 2005, as compared to $4.4 billion in 2004 and $4 billion in 2003, a senior customs official said Thursday. Elena Ladozhina, the deputy head of the Foreign Exchange Control Department within the Federal Customs Service, said that in 2004 the amount of foreign currency imported into the country fell slightly to $1.9 billion from $2 billion in 2003. According to the Federal Customs Service, $700 million was imported into the country in the first half of 2005. But Ladozhina said foreign currency import statistics for 2004 and 2005 were most likely misleading because the rules in effect during that period did not require individuals to declare foreign currency brought into the country
