A major Islamic center is to be built in central Grozny opposite Kadyrov Square
According to Ramzan Kadyrov, son of the former Chechen president killed in May 2004, the decision to build the center was made at a meeting with the republic's clergy, who backed the project that Kadyrov initiated. The building project includes plans for a mosque for 10,000 people, an office for the muftis, a clergy school, and a small hotel. Kadyrov said the mosque would be based on the design of the Haji-lei Zade mosque in Konia, Turkey. Talks have already begun on acquiring architectural plans for this design. The Kadyrov Regional Public Foundation will finance the project
