The Pentagon will observe the Commonwealth-2005 Russian-Chinese exercises
The Pentagon will observe the Commonwealth-2005 Russian-Chinese exercises, Brigadier General Carter Ham said Wednesday. He said the United States will send its Pacific Command to observe the exercises, which could influence the region. The first Russian-Chinese joint exercises will be conducted from August 18-25 of this year. The first stage, from August 18-19, will take place in the Far East military district involving chiefs of the Russian and Chinese general staffs. The second and third stages will be conducted in China's northeast. About 3,000 Russian troops and more than 5,000 Chinese soldiers are expected to participate.
