A conference on the Baltic environment will open in Veliky Novgorod Wednesday
About 40 experts from seven European countries will arrive for the conference in this ancient city, which is about 150 kilometers (90 miles) south of the Russia's biggest city on the Baltic Sea, St. Petersburg. According to the mayor's office, apart from Veliky Novgorod, Russia will also be represented by Kaliningrad, its European exclave on the Baltic. The international conference is part of a major long-term program that scientists of the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm) and the Yaroslav Mudry University of Novgorod have been carrying out. Veliky Novgorod Mayor Nikolai Grazhdankin and Lars Ryden, the head of the Baltic University Urban Forum project and a professor at Sweden's Uppsala University, will open the conference's first plenary session. The experts attending the conference will also have the opportunity to tour some of the facilities that support the city's infrastructure. The conference will end on Friday night
