The World of Knowledge international educational satellite TV channel could appear in Moscow in 2006
The World of Knowledge international educational satellite TV channel could appear in Moscow in 2006, the general director of the Eurasian Academy of Television and Radio said Friday. "The Eurasian Academy of Television and Radio proposed holding an international festival of educational films and programs, the World of Knowledge, in 2006," Valery Ruzin said. "We want to create the World of Knowledge educational TV channel on the basis of this festival." Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council's (the upper chamber of the parliament) Committee for Economic Policy, Entrepreneurship and Property Oleg Tolkachyov expects the channel to gain a following since society's interest in knowledge is growing. Sergei Kapitsa, the vice president of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, said the channel should be a mouthpiece for Russian culture, science and education. "A knowledge channel could fulfill a political function, promote mutual understanding and maintain the integrity and unity of our country," Kapitsa said.
