Moscow hopes for positive results at the talks on Russia’s accession to WTO
Moscow hopes for positive results at the talks on Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Russian deputy chief delegate Andrei Kushnirenko said. In an exclusive interview with the Prime-Tass news agency on Wednesday, Kushnirenko said Russia is expected to hold talks with Brazil, Australia, Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Salvador, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. The talks will be held in Geneva. “We believe that the negotiations will yield positive results. It is time to end them due to the fact that there are no reasons for this doesn’t happen,” the Russian official said. “We hope for a successful end of the negotiations with India. The problem of tea’s memorandum remained unsettled,” he added. The talks with Canada are slated for the beginning of October, the official said. At the same time, Kushnirenko said, “It is rather difficult to say when we complete talks with the United States because many issues are solved at a political level.” “Three or four problems should be solved with the U.S. The details are settled, but there is no final decision.” He expressed bewilderment over the U.S. concern about the size of duties for aircraft. “Even due to the present duties Western aircraft are purchased like as fried cakes. In the last 1.5 years, Russia purchased 33 aircraft despite the entrance duty,” Kushnirenko said.
