Alexander Karlin was sworn in as Altai governor Thursday
Alexander Karlin, former head of the presidential administration's civil service department, was sworn in as Altai governor Thursday, minutes after the region's legislature confirmed his appointment by President Vladimir Putin. Karlin replaces former Altai Governor Mikhail Yevdokimov, who died in a car crash August 7. Karlin, 53, entered prosecution service in 1972 in Byisk (Altai) after graduating from Sverdlovsk (now Ekaterinburg) Juridical Institute in 1972. He was appointed Deputy Justice Minister in 2001. In 2004, he was appointed head of the presidential administration's civil service department. Karlin holds a Ph.D. in Juridical Sciences
