More than half a billion young salmons were let out to the Pacific from the fish breeding plants of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands
More than half a billion young salmons were let out to the Pacific from the fish breeding plants of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands (Russia's Far East). RIA Novosti was told on Tuesday in the press center of the Sakhalin regional administration's staff that 16 state and 9 private enterprises are breeding this valuable fish. The insular plants produce three-fourths of the total amount of artificially bred salmons in the Russia's Far East. Nevertheless, the regional administration believes that this is not the limit. The natural conditions of the Sakhalin region allow to considerably increase the salmons' production by building new plants, preserving and expanding the natural spawning places. The regional administration decided to prepare, by summer, a concept for the development of the artificial reproduction of water and biological resources and commercial fishing. Its draft is expected to be widely discussed since fishery is one of the main sources of increasing the budget for the insular territory. At the same time, it gives jobs to tens of thousands of Sakhalin's and Kuril Islands' inhabitants.
