LUKOIL delegation to go to Iraq for talks on oil projects
The delegation of the operator of foreign projects of the company LUKOIL Overseas will arrive in Iraq for talks on Monday. “It is the beginning of implementing the stage of our project,” chief of the Russian oil company Vagit Alekperov said after a meeting with chairman of the Iraqi Interim Governing Council Abdel Aziz al-Hakim on December 22. The group of Russian oil companies including LUKOIL signed an agreement on developing the richest oil deposits in Iraq particularly in West Qurna in December 1997. Oil stocks of only one deposit West Qurna located 100 kilometres northwest of Basrah are estimated at 20 billion barrels. LUKOIL’s share in the project is 68.5 percent. The Iraqi share is 25 percent. Russian companies Zarubezhneft and Mashinoimport have by 3.25 percent. LUKOIL hopes to bring oil production in West Qurna to ten million barrels annually in five years after beginning the development of this deposit.
