The government of the Russian Federation on Thursday decided to leave intact
The government of the Russian Federation on Thursday decided to leave intact only 14 coordinating and consultative commissions under it, Vice-Premier Alexander Zhukov announced at the close of a Cabinet meeting. "The Cabinet decided to leave intact at government level an utterly narrow circle of consultative and coordinating commissions that are most important from the political and socio-economic points of view," Zhukov emphasised. The Vice-Premier mentioned such remaining panels as the commissions on military-industrial matters, on legislation drafting, on action to counteract violations in the sphere of intellectual activities and the consultative council on foreign investments. "We go ahead with the government reform process and the conduct of the administrative reform," he said. As of the present day, he said, there are 220 governmental and inter-agency commissions under the government. Most of them "did not meet in recent years while some other ones had sittings once in a great while", Zhukov said. In view of that, a decision was taken to cut down the number of the commissions substantially, he pointed out.
