The Lithuanian defense minister accused Russia Thursday of deliberately submitting "wrong" data on the crashed Russian Su-27 Flanker fighter
"Evidently, it is done to belittle the results and conclusions of the investigation," Gediminas Kirkilas told a local radio station. Kirkilas said he believed Russia was displeased with Lithuania conducting a "consistent" investigation without trying to "politicize" it. However, he said, the "wrong" data would not prevent the decoding of flight recorders. The head of a Lithuanian commission investigating the accident said Wednesday the inquiry had been suspended after Russia provided "data on a different plane". Vilnius did not invite Russian experts to take part in the investigation. The fighter crashed in Lithuania September 15 while flying from St. Petersburg to Russia's Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad. Russia says it entered the Lithuanian air space due to a failure of navigation equipment. The pilot ejected safely and is being questioned by the Lithuanian authorities.
