Russian President will discuss cooperation in the energy industry during his visit to Belgium
President Vladimir Putin will discuss cooperation in the energy industry during his October 3 visit to Belgium, a presidential aide said. Sergei Prikhodko said bilateral cooperation in natural gas transportation had been developing successfully. "Good prospects could appear after the construction of a natural gas transit corridor through Belgium to transport Russian natural gas to Britain using either the existing [pipeline] network in Germany or the future North European Gas Pipeline," he said. The aide said Russia's Gasexport, the export arm of the world's largest gas company, Gazprom, and Belgium's Distrigaz energy company had signed an agreement in December 2004 on transporting natural gas to Britain via Belgium. In April 2005, the Belgian government and Gazpromexport, Gazprom's gas marketing arm, signed a memorandum on cooperation in the construction of an underground natural gas storage facility in Belgium with a capacity of about 4 billion cubic meters. Prikhodko also said Belgium had always been and remained a traditional partner for Russia.
