To discuss the entire spectrum of bilateral relations with emphasis on trade-and-economic and investment component is one of the main purposes of Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Britain
To discuss the entire spectrum of bilateral relations with emphasis on trade-and-economic and investment component is one of the main purposes of Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Britain, Russian presidential aide Sergei Prikhodko has told Itar-Tass. The entire spectrum of cooperation, both in bilateral format and in the international arena, will be discussed, he said. Prikhodko recalled that trade runover between Russia and Britain in 2004 ran at 9,270 million US dollars (a 43-percent increase). This tendency keeps on: in the first half of 2005, trade turnover amounted to 6,170 million USD, growing by 59.4 percent as compared with that in the corresponding period of 2004. By the index of cumulative foreign investments in the Russian economy (8,700 million USD), Britain ranks fifth after the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Cyprus, and Germany. "Cooperation in the field of energy has good prospects," Prikhodko pointed out. His opinion is that many companies had made considerable strides in this respect. The results of the British Petroleum operation give ground to hope for gaining record-high incomes in the current year. "The Russian side comes out infavour of responsible participation of British capital in the development of the Russian industry, particularly in research-intensive sectors," he said. "A North European gas trunkline will also be discussed during the Russian President's visit, just as our plans and waht was agreed upon in Germany," Prikhodko said. "The main task on the trade-and-economic track is to diversify contacts and augment the technological component," the presidential aide pointed out. Prikhodko mentioned anti-terror efforts among the main subjects of discussion at the upcoming talks. "There will be a serious discussion to this effect with due regard for all the circumstances. Among international subjects, this one will be discussed most intensively," he said. Prikhodko also pointed out that the talks would also deal with the implementation of decisions take at the G8 summit in the Scottish town of Glenigles in July this year. There will be also an exchange of views on the situation in Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan, he said.
