Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik will discuss partnership between Russia and the European Union
Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik will discuss partnership between Russia and the European Union, as Austria prepares to assume the rotating EU presidency in the second half of 2006, a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry said. Mikhail Kamynin said: "The visit offers a good opportunity to advance the traditional Russian-Austrian dialogue on the level of foreign ministers. The negotiations will focus on prospects for partnership between the Russian Federation and the European Union, especially in the context of Austria's rotating presidency in the EU in the first half of 2006." The Russian Foreign Ministry said trade and economic cooperation between the two countries was dynamic. "In 2004, bilateral trade hit a record level of 2.8 billion euros, [and] the positive dynamics remained in the first half of 2005. There has been an appreciable growth of Austrian investment in the Russian market, totaling $1.6 billion in mid-2005," the ministry official said. Plassnik will be in Moscow on October 6-7.
