The Central Asian Cooperation Organization will hold a summit Thursday in St. Petersburg
The Central Asian Cooperation Organization (CACO) will hold a summit Thursday in St. Petersburg to discuss how it can work more effectively, a Kremlin source said Thursday. The source said Russia had prepared a draft memorandum on CACO interaction with regional and international organizations that will allow the establishment of interim common bodies to solve specific tasks. "Russia, which has particular relations with Central Asian states, is interested in their comprehensive development and consolidation both on a bilateral and multilateral basis," the Kremlin representative said. The organization is the successor to the Central Asian Economic Community, which covered Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Russia, Georgia, Turkey and Ukraine were observers in the association's highest body. The CACO was formally established in 2002 and Russia became a member in 2004
